Vybz Kartel has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2011 murder of an associate.
Judge Lennox Campbell sentenced the dancehall star (real name Adidja Palmer) and three other men in Kingston, Jamaica on Thursday. The 38-year-old must serve 35 years behind bars before he can be eligible for parole.
Last month, a jury convicted Kartel and three co-defendants of murdering Clive “Lizard” Williams, who was beaten to death at Kartel’s house over two missing guns in 2011. His body has never been found.
One of the key pieces of evidence in the 65-day murder trial was a text message retrieved from Kartel’s phone saying Williams had been chopped up in “mincemeat” and that his remains would never be located.
Fans lined up outside the courthouse as police in riot gear manned barricaded streets. Once they heard the life sentence, they were overcome with emotion.
“Wickedness! They take away the ‘world boss,’” said one woman, referring to one of Kartel’s nicknames.
His camp reacted to the sentence, tweeting, “Addi never asked for nor expected anything else from the system that facilitated his conviction despite missing n tampered evidence.”
Defense lawyer Tom Tavares-Finson expects to file an appeal. “It is not over Gaza Army. It is not over,” his team assured fans. “Certain details we have to hold back but this is just a obstacle on the road to freedom.”
Kartel is one of dancehall’s biggest stars and has collaborated with artists including Jay Z, Rihanna, and Busta Rhymes, who attended the last day of his trial.

one.
The young entrepreneur is the founder of Beni American University (BAU), Nigeria’s first private online university. Launched in late 2012, the school allows students to access their classes at any time of the day with any internet-enabled device.
“We are providing executive programs for graduates who are looking for employment and want to build up their resumes, or managers who want to climb up the hierarchy of their companies,” says Ukanwoke, now 25.
“We also have courses targeted at people who want to start their own business.” ‘Nigeria’s Mark Zuckerberg’ Ukanwoke’s idea to start BAU came from his previous online venture called Students Circle, an educational social networking site he’d launched while in university that allows learners to interact and access free resources from leading schools.
“When I created Students Circle in 2010,” explains Ukanwoke, “I found out that many were looking for certificates, hoping that they could get something they could use to maybe find employment or get a promotion in the workplace. “There was a need for a new institution to be created in Nigeria,” adds Ukanwoke, who was once described by Forbes as “Nigeria’s Mark Zuckerberg.”
Now, some 18 months into his new business endeavor, Ukanwoke has hired 10 instructors and has about 200 students, with an average age of 26.
But the startup’s journey so far has not been without challenges — Nigerian laws require universities to have a physical campus so last year Ukanwoke went and bought land in the country’s Benue State with the goal to build a private campus that could accommodate some 10,000 students.
The project is expected to launch next year, but in the meantime the web courses are up and running — a 12 week online program can cost between $100 and $300.
Among the courses offered are corporate diplomacy, global marketing, leadership and management, digital journalism, project management and entrepreneurship and innovation, which is the university’s most popular class.
Ukanwoke relies mainly on social media to advertize but says that it’s student referrals that are increasing BAU’s enrollment.
“We still have a long way to go, we have a lot of work to do, a lot of policy
wrangling too,” he admits. “But it’s a work in progress and we are quite happy with where we are.”

During GTA publisher Take-Two’s Q3 earnings call, chairman Strauss Zelnick denied GTA6 by — ironically — talking about GTA6. To quote: “We’re not going to announce it. The video game titled “Shuffle City” scheduled for 2019, is said to leave the shores of america and feature lagos, Nigeria in western africa the story revolves around GTA’s favourite character thomas vercetti who happens to be suffering from Amnesia and wakes up in a hospital in the city and works with the resources and contacts to find out how he got there the game is said to be modelled in the image of the lekki pennisula west nigeria complete with lagos radio stations and songs from nigerian artistes and shall feature local thugs as well as radical groups + old friends and foes from “Vice city”
Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter claimed: “While we still expect a GTA game in calendar 2019, it is not clear that the game will be released before the end of Take-Two’s fiscal year ending October 31, 2019.”
Clearly a quick turnaround analysts promised us for the next GTA game didn’t happen. Instead a Fall 2019 release for GTA6 is much more likely. In the end, an extra year of development will make sure the game will be higher quality and more fun to play.
Also Grand Theft Auto 6 is said to be coming to Wii 2 alongside Xbox 360 and PS3 in fall 2019 the story here being that GTA6 would be a launch game.
